Netbackup BMR client known to NBU server with IP address

Hello,

I would like to know if it is allowed to have a BMR client as IP address not as a hostname. If yes, how to restore it?

Thank you in advance.

It is always recommened to use Hostname only.  It will work, if you put IP address in Client's tab of Policy.

BMR BACKUPS will work seamlessly. Even BMR Recovey will run without issues.

But User may see very minor issues related to BMR restore JOB finishing in 'BMR Task' list(explained below).

Whole BMR recovery will finish, but BMR Task may not get marked as 'Finished' post bmr recovery.

It may lie "Active" with 'Finalizing' state. User need to explicitly close the job.

Its better to keep the "ClientName" in Policy consistent with that of Name given while installing Netbackup-client software on client.

Really not sure why you need IP address only and not hostname.

My guess is that it will work if you simply put IP address in Clients tab of the BMR policy.

The BMR Client name will be recorded as IP address.
Restore should be same as hostname restore.
Best to test this in a lab/VM environment.

Curious to know why?
