Please upgrade client to NBU 7.5 followed by 7.5.0.5 patch.

There is no reason why client should run an old, unsupported version of NBU.
It also makes no sense to try and troubleshoot an old, unsupported version of NBU,

Please upgrade client and ensure that all NBU services startup successfully.
At this point, we can help to troubleshoot SQL policy in a separate discussion.

PS: there should be some record in Event viewer logs of failed Service startup attempt.

Have you looked in the event viewer to see if error messages are posted there ?

1) Check for free space

2) Make exceptions for Netbackup in your anti virus

3) If you see no errors in the event viewer and this is a client, uninstall and reinstall the client.

Please start at the beginning: What is OS version on client? Bit level? What is NBU version and patch level? Is this a new installation that has never worked before? Or did it work before and now no more? What errors are seen in Event Viewer Application Log?

Sorry for not providing the required info

OS Version  2003 sp2  32bit

client 6.5.5   master server 7.5.0.5

There are no entries related to netbackup in the event log

First time adding it to the backup policy. It might have been backed up before. I have been given the backup resposibilty recently.

The master server was 7.1.0.4. I have just updated master/media server (one machine) to 7.5.0.5. I was asked to start backing up this machine also. It is running sql 2005.

There was already a MS-SQL-SERVER policy type setup and the backup selection are

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\DbExt\MsSql\SPP_translog.bch

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\DbExt\MsSql\SPP_full.bch

Thanks for your help

6.5.x is not supported.  From your last update, you are running SQL 2005 which is certified with NBU 7.0 and later.  Please uninstall the 6.5 client and install 7.0 or later.

What OS and services pack is the client running where SQL 2005 is running ?

Hello snawaz3 ,

Open Computer Management and then go to Services.

Look for the NetBackup Services.  Client Service, Legacy Client Service and Legacy Network Service should be set to Automatic and started. If they are not started, try starting them and see if you get any errors that keep them from starting.  Check on their properties in case it is some sort of permissions thing.
