Netbackup DB2 10TB database backup options

dsk1
Level 4

Hi,

I am looking for possible solution options to backup DB2 database of around 10TB in 8 hours backup window. The possible options I see are below.

1) Have a 10Gig NIC on DB2 server and configure backup to a media server.

2) Configure DB2 server as SAN client and send data to SAN media server.

3) Configure Netbackup snapshot backup with off-host backup option. But I feel this is complex one as it will use snapshot method of underlying hardware. it may require additional licensing.

Looking for your expert advise on this.

Thanks

Hi,

Your option 1 and 2 should work well, I've seen SAN clients run at ±800MB/s but of course this is dependent on your environment.

You should get good backup and restore performance.

To achieve mind blowing recovery speeds you can take a look at Infoscale Storage. The solution is installed on your DB2 hosts and can provide storage checkpoints that you can use for backup (using some bpstart scripts) and recovery (directly on a block level).
