Netbackup DR Failure Scenario(need help)

JaquesC
Level 4

Hi there,

As the title states, I am busy with some documentation regarding a possible DR failure scenario and the steps to follow:

The scenario is that the master/media servers go off the radar, and are no longer available. Then there is a standalone physical server in DR side with Netbackup already running and all software/OS versions etc... is a match

From your personal experience and perspective, what would be the very best and easiest way to get all the catalogues/information and all neccesary to the DR side as soon as possible in the event of a disaster?

The Scenario is also that most of the data resides on Tape, including the catalog backup jobs.

The biggest thing here also being that, If you need to continue doing backups and restores immediatly of the remaining hosts/clients on the DR side server, what are the options of getting the policy and entire configuration across and in a "Sync'd" state with the master in production?

The other issue as well is, your jobs and policies refer to different media servers and different robot's, we have seen an issue before where we tried to do an immediate restore from tape on the DR server, and ran into failures because the media server the job was run on, was no longer available, and NBU did not understand what to do next, so failed? I need this server to ignore the missing media servers etc... just restore to whatever client I point it to?

Thanks and cheers!

Apologies for not seeing your post earlier....

Various choices to keep DR master in sync, depending on your budget.

You can ship catalog tape along with backup tapes to remote site on a daily basis and recover catalog as soon as it arrives there.

Another option to really keep catalogs in sync is catalog replication.

Any kind of replication that guarantees 'write order fidelity' is supported. This includes Veritas Volume Replication as well as most array replication options.
The requirement is that images as well as relational databases must reside on a single volume.
