Hello,

Were you able to gather java logs or any network communication logs to confirm that java console is slow when using multiple vlan's...  ?

Were you able to isolate the performance being better with reduced number of vlan's ?

Is you master server a virtual machine where you have multiple vlan's set ?

It usualy starts slowly but then works nice. Some of our customers have same configurations and same difficulties.

Hi Mike

i have 2 master servers each with morethan 12 Vlans.

Master 2 is working fine but Master1 is bit slow.

Rahul

Yes, its a VM Master

I have asked a couple of questions over here:
https://vox.veritas.com/t5/NetBackup/Netbackup-7-7-3-Policies-workign-slow/m-p/817204#M220166

with no reply to any of my questions....

In all my years with NBU I have always seen that things do not work well where multiple IP addresses are linked to the same hostname.

Hi Marianne

This issue is only with Netbackup Windows Environment.

I got Netbackup appliance with 16 VLANS without any issues and the strange issue is when I do

'bpclntcmd -self' its comes up with one IP.

Why do you need 'more than 10 VLANs'? to backup different different clients on different subnets.

Is each IP address linked to different hostnames? Each IP has pointed to one hostname which is master server.

And SERVER entries for each hostname? Didn’t understand

Comms working 100% fine on all VLANs? Yes

What does 'bpclntcmd -self' show on the master with all the VLANs enabled? Yes.

Do you have PREFERRED_NETWORK entries configured for each of the VLANs? No

I strongly recommend using diffrent host names for diffrent IP's.

Lot of IP's with same DNS name is on page 1, line 1 of my "do not do".

Slow responding netbackup is often related to DNS lookups not being answered or network connections not being accepted. Either way, becuase Netbackup relies on host based authentication, each diffrent IP must have its own host name.

Hi Nicolai

do you mean

10.221.241.70   NRECNETBK111-1
10.31.12.199  NRECNETBK111-2
10.220.7.30  NRECNETBK111-3

What about from client which is on different subent and different vlan ?

what will be the output from client bpclntcmd -hn ? if i use different hostname ?

"do you mean

10.221.241.70   NRECNETBK111-1
10.31.12.199  NRECNETBK111-2
10.220.7.30  NRECNETBK111-3 "

IMHO - yes.
This is how I would do it:

1. Ensure that each IP address linked to different hostnames
2. Add SERVER entries for each hostname
3. Confirm that media servers and client on each is configured for relevant hostname/IP/Server.
4. 'bpclntcmd -self' should only show hostname NRECNETBK111 and primary IP.
bpclntcmd will resolve each hostname and IP to one entry only.
5. Add PREFERRED_NETWORK entries for each of the VLANs.

Hi Marianne

Please advise

1. Ensure that each IP address linked to different hostnames-- Solved
2. Add SERVER entries for each hostname ---Where must i add this ?
3. Confirm that media servers and client on each is configured for relevant hostname/IP/Server.

in this case host/ip/server name for IP range 10.31.12.199  will be  --NRECNETBK111-2. is this from client side ?
4. 'bpclntcmd -self' should only show hostname NRECNETBK111 and primary IP.-- Solved
bpclntcmd will resolve each hostname and IP to one entry only.
5. Add PREFERRED_NETWORK entries for each of the VLANs-- What will be source and destination here ?

Rahul

4. 'bpclntcmd -self' should only show hostname NRECNETBK111 and primary IP.-- Still shows multiple IP and hostnames even after changed even after clear the host cache.

Rahul

Guys

is there any solution for this ???

I don't know about other helpers here, but I have not had time to look up TN about PREFERRED_NETWORK. Maybe you could do that?

Server entries go in Host Properties on the Master and on media servers and clients on the relevant vlan. After you have checked forward and reverse name lookup in all directions using bpclntcmd.
