Hi,

I have a problem with my robotic library, I have a Master/Media Server Deduplication 7.5.0.6, the master server is a RHEL 6 Update 4 x64, I have a Robotic Library IBM TS3200 LTO 6 whit HH6 tape drives.

The problem is: In the moment of configure the tape drives on Netbackup, I take control of Medium Changer but my tape drives has the "UNUSABLE" and the error is the status 20.

Any idea?

Regards.

Looking at scan output for a tape drive on my linux server

Device Name  : "/dev/nst0"
Passthru Name: "/dev/sg3"

<snip>

and then your output

Device Name  : "-"
Passthru Name: "/dev/sg4"

You are missing the Device name ...
You might want to check the st module is loaded

lsmod |grep -w st

If it is, I would try a reboot of the server.  The /dev/nst0 is a operating system file (it is in fact the os path to the device) that is 'missing'  - Linux should create these when it boots.

So currently, this is an os issue, not a NBU issue.

Please post output of :

/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan

Please also verify that you have latest Device Mappings installed:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH207161

Hi Marianne,

the output is:

[root@ ~]# /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpext -get_dev_mappings_ver
device mappings version in the EMM database is 1.117
device mappings version from the local file is 1.117
Local device mappings file is up-to-date

and may scan is:

[root@ bin]# ./scan

In addition to Martin's excellent post, please also go through the Linux chapter of NetBackup Device Configuration Guide http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5186

It contains detailed info about required drivers, how to check and load the drivers and how to verify device config at OS level.

Marianne, Martin

Thanks for your comments, I checked the enviroment, I had configure the lin_tape of IBM, the solution is configure the tape library with generic driver to OS.

The settings to view the devices with the "device name"

Before

Device Name  : "-"
Passthru Name: "/dev/sg5"

After

Device Name  : "/dev/nst1"
Passthru Name: "/dev/sg1"

I know for sure that LTO6 drives in ACSLS are not supported and are still in Q&A process, not sure about the IBM libraries but the way you make it work is configuring the drives as UNKNOWN, netbackup allows this and works fine, but like I say my experience is only with ACS drives, a case with support will answer if this is the same case.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
