Netbackup Upgrade from 6.5

Hi All,

I need some light with an upgrade for one of my new clients.

They are running(amongst many), a Netbackup domain with the following setup:

Windows 2003 Standard Edition, Service Pack 2

X86

Physical Memory 4.095.08MB

Virtual Memory 7GB

Netbackup version 6.5 (No patches).

5 of thier other sites are currently running on 7.5.0.7 and one site on 7.6.0.1

They would like to upgrade this smaller neglected site to the latest version.

Should I advise them to start with an upgrade to 6.5.5 then possibly to 7.0.1 or I can just upgrade to 7.0.1 ?

Thanking you in advance.

W2003 is not supported as master on NBU 7.6.

You can upgrade your current master to NBU 7.5, then migrate to W2008, followed by upgrade to NBU 7.6.

Please note increased memory requirements for a master as from NBU 7.5.

Why upgrade to 7.0.1 - typo ?

Upgrade from 6.X to 7.6 is fully supported.

7.X upgrade portal : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74584

Quote:

"2. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.6 can occur from all NetBackup 6.x and NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients."

I'm busy reading up on that, I just wanted to be certain as the environment doesnt have any patches. Its been running on that base installation (6.5)

Even without patches you can upgrade from 6.X to 7.x

Please note Mariannes comment about master server OS need replacment for 7.6

But 6.5 without patches - SCARRY surprise

Best Regards

Thank you all for the feedback.

It is much appreciated.

I will propose to the client as advised and hopefully it will be approved by the client. I will however feedback once the upgrade has been completed.
