Netbackup Upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.5.0.6 - Known Issues

Dear Experts,

We will be upgrading the existing Netbackup master server in clustered configuration using MSCS on windows 2008 R2 from 7.0.1 to 7.5.0.6. I heard that there are some issues while doing one step upgrade direclty from 7.0.1 to 7.5. If you faced any issues please share with me your experiences.

Yes, but only if the catalog is archived.

It is recommened to NOT start the NBU services after the upgrade to 7.5,. but immediately insatll the '.' release patch, eg. 7.5.0.6

Key Notes:

1. Before starting upgrading to NetBackup 7.5, run a Catalog Backup.

 2.   Symantec recommends that the consistency of the NetBackup EMM and BMR databases is validated and verified prior to performing the upgrade to NetBackup 7.5. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126758

3. Upgrade to NetBackup 7.5 can occur from all NetBackup 6.x and NetBackup 7.x versions. OpsCenter should be updated first, followed by the NetBackup Master Server, then Media Servers, then Clients.

4.  NetBackup 7.5 Maintenance Release 6 (7.5.0.6) should be applied immediately after the 7.5 installation has been completed.  NetBackup 7.5.0.5 download information can be found at the following link:

5. NetBackup 7.5 migrates the NetBackup catalog image header information into the Netbackup relational database. This is a multistep process that may impact installation and operational performance until complete. Please review the following PDF for more details:

6. With NetBackup 7.x, all Unix/Linux 32-bit support has been discontinued. Customers with 32-bit master servers can perform the following:

A. Move to a Netbackup Appliance!

What do u mean by catalog is archived?

Yes, but only if the catalog is archived.

Meaning if your catalog has been archived. 

Catalog archiving is explained in NBU Admin Guide I, chapter 18 under this topic: Archiving the catalog

Marianne bet me to it - the manual explains all.

Simply, archinving the catalog backs up the .f files and deletes them.  They are restored as and when needed.  This is done to save space, as the majoity of the space the NBU uses, is due to the '.f' files.
