Netbackup Upgrade

vicky2017
Level 3

Hi ,

I am planning for Netbcakup upgrade from 7.0 to 7.7.3

We are using Data Domain configured as VTL as target storage.

Also using DD boost on media server level.

How to upgrade Media servers from 7.0 to 7.5 or 7.7 and do we need to do any configuriation changes to DD for the same.

Please let me know what are the things that we have to keep in mind w.r.t Data Domain.

With Regards,

Vicky

You can upgrade straight to 7.7.3 after you have checked and confirmed OS compatibility.
See NetBackup 7.7.x Download Information :  http://www.veritas.com/docs/000108154
7.x Upgrade Portal: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000040130

For DD in VTL mode, there is nothing else to do as NBU sees VTL as tape.

For OST and DDboost, you need to check NBU hardware compatibility and EMC compatibility lists.
You may need to upgrade DD first and download the latest OST plugins.

Fore sure you will have to upgrade to DD OST plugin , and maybe even DD OS on the Data Domain.

As Marianne said - does not apply for VTL operations.

I highly recommend performing a SORT assessment using one of the data collector to ensure the system is ready for a upgrade:

I am in the process of upgrading my netbackup from 7.6 to 8, I also have Data Domains as VTL due to fiber channel connectivity from our large oracle data bases.

I have upgraded my test environment with no issues at all.

Having said that, I agree - SORT is your friend!

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

Hi,

Do we need use DD boost plugin if we are using Data Domain as VTL ?

I heard somewhere DD boost is required only if you using Data Domain as Disk library.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

Also how to check DD boost plugin version in windows 2003 seRerver.

With Regards,

Vicky

In VTL mode, there is NOTHING installed on the media server. The DD is presented to the OS as normal tape.
Only tape drivers get installed at OS level.

OST plugin is only installed on NBU media server(s) if you have purchased DDboost, enabled DDboost on your appliance and have configured storage units on the appliance to be used by NBU.

Please speak to your EMC support team regarding different protocols and options.

To verify plugin version (command is in admincmd):
bpstsinfo -pi -stype DataDomain

Please be aware that NBU no longer supports W2003.
You will need to migrate NBU to supported OS.
