Greetings,

Is Netbackup a multithread software ?
Will performance improve by adding extra CPU if the bottleneck is the CPU ?

Kindly advise.

Thanks and Regards

I don't know exactly. But I think that Performance of Netbackup does not depend on CPU so much; I/O performance is more effective. Few exception I know are Client Compress and Encryption.

Tan,
Yes, the number of CPU's and their speed is important .

Please see the FAQ in tek-tips:

CPU and Memory
For each 1MB/sec of data arriving at the server you need 5MHz CPU processing power. To calculate:
* * 5MHz * 2 (5MHz for reading off network and 5MHz for writing to tape). E.g. 8 jobs averaging 6000KB/sec needs = 480MHz.
Memory Used = (buffer_size * num_buffers) * num_drives * MPX’ing.
