Netbackup appliance cannot add LTO5 drives just LTO6 from same library

Hi All,

We have 2 tape libraries (Attached to NBU appliance via FC):

old one (HP MSL4048) with 2 LTO5 FC HH drives.

new one (MSL6480) with 3 LTO6 FC HH drives.

I configured the new library then I took offline the old library (we will retire it) and relocated 2 old drives to new tape lib so now I have 5 drives in new lib (3 LTO6, 2 LTO5) LTO 5 is for restoring from old tapes if needed. When I would like to add all drives to Netbackup I can add the LTO6 drives only. Netbackup Device config wizard says the 2 LTO 5 drive attached to remote host, however I can see them.

If I run tpconfig on Appliance I see that Drive name = unknown for LTO5 drives so they are there but I cannot see them as device if I run Scan command.

Can you please help what could be the problem?

This is the robot itself seeing the tape drives via internal connection:

Number of Media Access Ports = 0
 Drive = 1, Drive Name = /dev/nst1, Serial Number = 8026E64E05
 Drive = 2, Drive Name = /dev/nst2, Serial Number = 8026E64E0F
 Drive = 3, Drive Name = /dev/nst0, Serial Number = 8026E64E19
 Drive = 4, Drive Name = unknown, Serial Number = 8026E64E23
 Drive = 5, Drive Name = unknown, Serial Number = 8026E64E2D

The OS does not see the drives, therefore no device path (unknown)

You need to check physical connection, zoning, etc.

HP LTT Scan details:

Searching for drives of Library 'HP MSL6480' at address '30.5.1[3-/dev/sg210]'
3rd Method: finding drives by serial number
Found drive 1 of library at address 30.5.0[3-/dev/sg209].
Found drive 2 of library at address 30.6.0[3-/dev/sg211].
Found drive 3 of library at address 30.4.0[3-/dev/sg208].
Drive with serial number '8026E64E23' could not be found
Drive with serial number '8026E64E2D' could not be found
Found only 3 of 5 drives.
2 drives of library at address 30.5.1[3-/dev/sg210] could not be found

Marianne,

Thank you very much, I'll check FC zoning with telco guys and get back to you soon.

Marianne,

Consequences: Never trust a telecom guy :) , we found issue on FC zoning level and we could fix it and I can see all my drives now. Thank you for your quick help. Have a nice day.
