Netbackup client installation on Solaris 10

NBU35
Level 6

Hi

we have one client running at following OS.

SunOS prod_btp01 5.10 Generic_147440-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise

current version of Netbackup is "NetBackup-Solaris10 6.5.3".
we are planning to upgrade client to 7.6, as per my understnding it requires approx 2.5 GB space in /usr/openv and equal amount in /tmp for keeping temporary files.

now issue is we have only 1 Gb space in /tmp and it can't be incresead, /opt has almost 6 GB free space.

If I create a tmp dir inside /opt (eg. /opt/tmp) and pass this location for NB_TMPDIR variable and install netbackup in /opt (link to /usr/openv), will it make installation possible on this client ?

Actually this would be an easy 'fix' for you

See the following:

Solution 1 is probably the easiest for you (it will allow you to set a temporary directory for the installation).

Good luck!

/opt/tmp could (probably not) but could be used by something else, the installer script even... so might be best to use /opt/champ35 as the temp space path.   :)    But sounds like your plan should work.

Yes, that should work.

Edir:  sdo makes a good point, maybe create a dedicated tmp area

Mark Deb as solution!

I use /var/tmp, but any filesystem with space can be used:

BTW - you need at least 4GB in this tmpdir! If it fails, it can jack up the installation.

Solution 1:

Set NB_TMPDIR to a location that has enough space.  Example using /usr/openv/tmp:

  NB_TMPDIR=/var/tmp; export NB_TMPDIR

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

It is dead-easy to increase swap/tmp space by adding a swapfile.

See: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/817-5093/fsswap-59089.html

What if you don't have root access to do so?

Is there a way to declare the NBU_TMPDIR at the beginning of the install_client script?

root access is a pre-req for software installation on Solaris and other Unix/Linux OS.
