Netbackup error on Exchange backup (4207)

Maverick101

Good day,

We run maintenance jobs on our exchange quite regulary and it always followed by a full backup for those mail dbs. We had another last night and forgot to run the full backup and only ran the usual incremental, which caused the Exchange writer to go into a failed state. Problem resolved by rebooting the server and getting the writers working again.

Just wanted to know why the incremental backup process caused the writers to fail as the 4207 seems like a generic error.

Thanks in advance

You need to check Event Viewer Application log.

Exchange writer going into a failed state'  is IMHO a Microsoft error, not NetBackup.

It is usually the other way around, that a failed VSS Writer causes the Netbackup backup to fail.

Very often you will see a status 156 or 130 before the shown 4207, which basically tells you that the snapshot before the one you attempt failed.

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue

Hi

As was mentioned before, this is not a NBU issue, usually it a VSS problem.Use vssadmin commands to troubleshoot VSS.

What is your nbu client version?
What is your Exchange version?

Below there are some articles about this issue, on diferents NBU and Exchange version. Can you check?
