Netbackup failing to create snapshot of Windows 2k8 VM

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can offer some advice regarding an issue I'm having trying to back up a Windows VM via a Flashbackup policy. For the past few days (no issues previously) this backup has been failing with error 156. The Netbackup log shows the following;

05/12/2013 20:00:10 - snapshot backup of client WNRYDAP22 using method VMware
05/12/2013 20:06:42 - Critical bpbrm (pid=7612) from client WNRYDAP22: FTL - VMware snapshot failed: SYM_VMC_TASK_REACHED_ERROR_STATE
05/12/2013 20:06:42 - Critical bpbrm (pid=7612) from client WNRYDAP22: FTL - VMware error received: A snapshot operation cannot be performed.
05/12/2013 20:06:43 - Critical bpbrm (pid=7612) from client WNRYDAP22: FTL - snapshot processing failed, status 156
05/12/2013 20:06:43 - Critical bpbrm (pid=7612) from client WNRYDAP22: FTL - snapshot creation failed, status 156
05/12/2013 20:06:43 - Warning bpbrm (pid=7612) from client WNRYDAP22: WRN - ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES is not frozen
05/12/2013 20:06:44 - end writing

In Vcenter I can see that there is now a lot of broken snapshot files for the VM

In the VM itself, I can see a few MSSQLSERVER, SQLVDI & SQLWRITER errors logged each time the backup snapshot is attempted, such as;

SQLVDI: Loc=SignalAbort. Desc=Client initiates abort. ErrorCode=(0). Process=2024. Thread=4608. Client. Instance=. VD=Global\{1CAC5E8E-C90D-4C21-B680-DF61C805FCDC}2_SQLVDIMemoryName_0.

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE model. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

BackupVirtualDeviceFile::SendFileInfoBegin:  failure on backup device '{1CAC5E8E-C90D-4C21-B680-DF61C805FCDC}4'. Operating system error 995(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15100).

When I run vssadmin list writers, I can see that the SQL Writer is in state failed, timed out. This is the same for the WMI writer & System writer.

The VM has been restarted, and I've tried various things, such as disabling the SQL writer without luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Can you take snapshot of VM from vCenter?
Have you already tried VMware policy in stead of FlashBackup-Windows policy? If never, try it.
Also try to remove all VM snapshot and retry backup.

There are some relevant Technotes and post.
