Hello all,
I have an issue that is giving me grief trying to find a solution.
A couple of weeks ago, a tape:
Media id: 0276L4, Bar code: 000276L4 was written to and moved offsite.
The tape was returned to the library for a restore with the write tab closed to prevent overwriting. However the inventory process relabled the tape with a different media id:
Media id: A00026, Bar code: 000276L4
Here is the output of bpmedialist,
# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpmedialist -m 0276L4
Server Host = xxx
id rl images allocated last updated density kbytes restores
vimages expiration last read <------- STATUS ------->
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0276L4 8 36 02/16/2013 07:22 02/19/2013 06:02 hcart 1414722168 0
36 02/17/2018 18:00 N/A FULL ENCRYPTION
What are the correct steps to getting netbackup to recognise the correct media id while keeping the tape contents?

There is also an A00026/000276L4 in standalone as well.
That can be deleted ....

Something wrong with your barcode reader in your library or a possibly momentary 'blip' (have had those)?
Try removing & re-injecting the media again with inventory - A00026 looks like the standard media id for no barcode or unreadable barcode.

I ejected the tape, then put in back in. This time the robot inventory gives me this:

Robot: TLD(0) on erpbackup
Operation: Inventory and Update
EMM Server: erpbackup

Agree with Andy. As long as the tape is write protected the relabeling hasn't overwritten backup data.
What is the status of A00026 ?
It should either be in scratch status or frozen because Netbackup can't write to it.

Move the tape to stand alone residence (---) in Netbackup. Netbackup think the tape is in the robot. This typical happens when tapes are removed manual and not ejected via Netbackup.

Under media and device management->media->standalone, 0276L4 is under standalone residence.
There is also an A00026/000276L4 in standalone as well.

Has the robot/library been changed recently?
It's as if it has had the barcode presented one way originally & is now presented differently
Can we see the output of vmquery -m 0276L4
this should show the barcode as NB currently sees it ... hopefully it is not 000276L4

Then do a inventory of the robot again - it should work now.

I'm going to step back for a few minutes - Grant's got that much info being thrown at him at the same time things could get messy!

Just to clarify : A00026
03-12-2013 08:15 AM
Ok fantastic! I deleted A00026 and did a robot inventory again. This time Netbackup got it right.
The tape is back with the correct Media ID/barcode.
Thank you all for your quick help.

Glad it's sorted!
Logically add new media 0276L4 (barcode 000276L4) to robot slot 17.
Updating volume configuration ...
- that's the bit that got me tho', why did NB think this was new media??
