Netbackup log file retention

YC

Hi,

We are using Netbackup 7.5 and auditor requested 2 years ago log file to show evidence. Is it possible to retrieve 2 years ago log file from Netbackup? If the retention of the log files is not configured and not healthy to the system to keep the log files for such a long time, is it possible to export the log files out from Netbackup as text files monthly? If still not possible, what would be a better way?

Thanks in advance.

NetBackup stores log files for 28 days by default and is controlled by the Clean-up setting in Master Server Host Properties.

Some of our customers have backup policies to backup the logs. When they need to have a look at older logs, they just restore the logs to a temp folder.

If backups in your company need to be kept for 2 years or longer and your retention levels are set up correctly, you can show the Auditors the Client Backup report. Just select appropriate dates.
This report draws information directly from the image database and not from error-db or any other logs.

YC,

In Master server host properties, check the "Clean-up" setting for attribute "Keep logs".
By default it's value is 28 days, if it's something else in your enviroment then upto the days mentioned there you can have the logs.
As logs take an ample amout of disk space, so it should not be kept for too long until unless its very urgent.
With regards to Marianne's above best post/comment, its better to take backup of logs with longer retention period and get it restored then & there when needed.

Thanks
