Netbackup support for EV11

ChrisRobertson
Level 3

Hi All,

Since our upgrade to EV11 we have been backing up using the workaround. We are now on 7.6.0.4 and I am trying to create new policies to use the client once again. I want to have it working before the quarterly roll over of the EV open partitions but we are still getting the error 2 even after selecting EV11 in the policy.

Oddly, the ready partitions work but I guess thats because they are empty. The open partitions have failed consistently

I noticed this post was marked as resolved: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-support-enterprise-vault-11

Is that because the person was waiting or did they mark it as resolved after the new version of Netbackup came out?

Here is an excerpt of the error:

I called support last night and it turns out that I needed to change the netbackup client service to run as local system. It was running with an enterprise admin account.

Thanks for the help.

EV 11 is supported as from NBU 7.6.0.4.

EV server as well as SQL server (if separate SQL server) must be on 7.6.0.4.
So, that answers the Support question.

As far as the status 2 error is concerned, you need to double-check the manual to ensure that installation, configurarion and permissions are setup correctly. Status has been around for a long time where configuration and/or permissions are incorrect.

Thanks Marianne, I read the manual the first time around and have had another look through it now. It seems as though the 2 most important points are to have a service account running the netbackup client on the evault server which I have had since the original EV10 backups were running. In fact I have also tried to just run the original jobs which I deactivated while waiting for 7.6.0.4.

The second thing was to have the user account configured under the client settings in netbackup which also has not changed.

I am setting the job up the exact same way I did originally but ensuring that I select Enterprise-Vault 11 instead of 10.

One other thing I remembered and have since changed is the bpend_notify and bpstart_notify scripts still had the powershell commands to put evault into backup mode. I have removed these by creating blank files and renaming the originals but alas still no joy.

Are there any logs I can send you that may help to pinpoint the issue?

Regards

Chris

Sorry, before asking the initial question I ensured that the EV server, the DB server and the Storage server were all on 7.6.0.4
