Netbackup tape selection

GlenG
Level 4

NBU 7.01. on Solaris 10 X64.

All my backups are to disk stagging with destagging to tape.

I think I remember a setting somewhere that controlled how long Netbackup would consider a partually filled tape for use.  There was a point time where Netbackup would ignore the tape and select an unsed scratch instead.  I think it was for 1 day but can not find anything in the release 7 docs.

Has this setting been removed?  Am I dreaming?

Thanks for any clues,

GlenG

This is a good reason to be aware of how many partially full tapes you are creating - since it is very challenging to shrink them once they are created!

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS

Martin,

Thanks.  I must have been thinking about Backup-Exe "append period" feature.

From the docs you posted looks like EOM controlls most of what I see.

Sorry about the delayed reply,

Genericus,

I don't have that problem.  None of the Netbackup tapes are saved for more than 6 weeks, so they cycle around fiarly quickly.

I think it could be a big problem for anyone using archiving.  I understand from the folks who sell used tapes that many are used just once and then stored.
