Netbackup upgrade & Data Domain

vicky2017

We are upgrading Netbackup master server from 7.0.1 to 7.7.3 and all media server to 7.6.0.1 as most of them Windows 2003 servers. Both current master server and media servers are connected to Data domain via FC.Now new master hardware in which we are going migrate the catalog and upgrade it to netbackup 7.7.3 is LAN connected to data domain. Also we are using Data domain as both VTL and DD boost configured Disk library. I have some questions now on catalog migration.

  1. How we can make the data domain visible for new master server before catalog migration and also during recovering catalog ,how netbackup finds the Tape configured in Data Domain.
  2. Do we need install DD plugin before the catalog migration .
  3. Current master is also configured as media server for some clients which will make it difficult for us as new master server is LAN configured.
  4. Do we have any option to migrate the images of current master server’s media server images to another media server before the upgrade ,so that we can easily configure the new master server only for catalog backup.

Hello

First of all, are you saying current master has FC and new one doesn't? If so then, you should move the media from the master to another media server that can access the media using bpmedia -movedb (that was question 4)

  1. Leading on from the question above, where is your catalog backup kept? If its tape you'll not be able to restore easily to the master so need to plan it.
  2. You can install the ddboost plugin
  3. Once again, please advise exactly what you've got and what you're moving to, where you do catalog backups, how big the catalog is, etc.
