OracleDBA2
Level 3

Hi All,

Hope you are all doing fine.

OK, I am oracle Apps DBA but looking after Netbackup. I am still a novice in Netbakup.

Finally I have to try upgradig my Netbackup software from 7.5.0.6 to latest version(I think 8.0)

And also Netbackup Appliance 5230 from 2.5.3 to 3.0

I visited

https://sort.veritas.com/checklist/install

but i have some questions like

1. Should I upgrade applianc first or NB

2. Whats the procedure

3. Any documents or videos on that

Thanks

Hello

Always first to upgrade is OpsCenter server - if you do have one. Only then you should upgrade your MASTER server, after master, you want to upgrade MEDIA servers and finally CLIENTS.

Please review from sort the upgrade guide for version you are willing to be on as well the install guide for the same as upgrade guide is pointing to install guide.

Please be warned that new release requires a special user to be created up front on master.

Review these T/N in order to minimise upgrade failure:

I just upgraded my solaris master and a bunch of solaris and windows media servers from 7.6 to 8.0, and it went very smoothly. I would highly recommend doing the due dilegence, and read the docs.

Create the new user and group on the master - important!

Make sure you have tmp space large enough, and the environment variables defined!

Oracle loads the shared libraries into memory - so you MUST recyle the DB when you upgrade an oracle media server, before the next hot backup! ( I have to schedule mine as I patch them )

NetBackup 9.1.0.1 on Solaris 11, writing to Data Domain 9800 7.7.4.0
duplicating via SLP to LTO5 & LTO8 in SL8500 via ACSLS
