Hi, I am getting cannot connect to socket error while running the oracle RMAN backups manually. My Oracle server OS is windows,

Master server OS is linux.

But i am able to connect the client properties from Master server.

Please advise.

Thanks

Questions:

Can Client connect to Master?
Has this worked previously or is this a new setup?
What is NBU version on Master and Client?
Separate Media server(s)? If so, which version and OS?

When rman starts on on the client, a connection is made to bprd on the master via vnetd.

First of all check the Client's SERVER list - use in BAR GUI -> File -> Specify NetBackup Machines... : Server name for backups and restores must be the Master.

Verify that port 1556 (pbx) and vnetd (13724) are open in both directions between Master and Client.

Check hosts entries on master and client - ensure that master can resolve Client's incoming IP address to the same hostname that appears in the Oracle policy.
Hosts entries should match in server and client's hosts files.
If DNS is used, ensure correct forward and reverse lookup from server and client.

For troubleshooting, ensure that the following log folders exist:

On Client: dbclient and bpcd

On Master: bprd (restart NBU after folder is created).

are you using RMAN script or Template for backup. does your NB_ORA_CLIENT = mataches the client name in bp.conf.
