Is the PostgreSQL on your Win 2008 server installed by some other application, or, do you know if someone installed it there for a reason?

If both answers are 'no', then could this be some leftover from a previous NetBackup server installation? NetBackup leaves this behind when an uninstall does not complete cleanly.

If so, try uninstalling everything NetBackup related in 'Programs and Feature' first,
then follow these steps to manually remove NetBackup and its PostgreSQL from Windows:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH148122

After completing the above steps, check Windows services (services.msc) to see if there are still leftover NetBackup services. If they are still there, an installation would still give errors unless they are manually removed.

To remove leftover NetBackup services, you could use the 'sc delete' Windows command, or simply run each of the following lines:

sc delete "BMR Boot Service"
sc delete "BMR Master Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Agent Request Server"
sc delete "NetBackup Audit Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup BMR MTFTP Service"
sc delete "NetBackup BMR PXE Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Client Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Compatibility Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Database Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Device Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Enterprise Media Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Event Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Indexing Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Job Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Key Management Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Legacy Client Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Legacy Network Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Policy Execution Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Proxy Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Remote Manager and Monitor Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Request Daemon"
sc delete "NetBackup Resource Broker"
sc delete "NetBackup SAN Client Fibre Transport Service"
sc delete "NetBackup Service Layer"
sc delete "NetBackup Service Monitor"
sc delete "NetBackup Storage Lifecycle Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Vault Manager"
sc delete "NetBackup Volume Manager"
sc delete "SQLANYs_VERITAS_NB"
sc delete "VRTSpbx"
sc delete "nbatd"
sc delete "nbazd"
sc delete "spad"
sc delete "spoold"

Do not delete the "VRTSpbx" service if other Symantec products are also running on the same host. Otherwise, go right ahead.
Refresh services to see if the NetBackup services are all gone, or if I have missed one or two.
At this point, you should be able to install NetBackup without the errors.

BTW, you tagged 'Windows 8' to this post. NetBackup server does not support to be installed on Windows 8.

Hello,

Just to make sure, did you right click and run as administrator? The UAC is enabled and can cause install issues.

Also what version are you installing? Older 7.5 versions have known issues with some of the errors you are getting.

Curious to know why you felt it was necessary to install the postgreSQL EEB?

Please disable UAC for installation. This is documented as a requirement in NBU Installation Guide.

2. I installed client and then Netbackup server,

Why was this done?

Please completely unistall NBU Client software before installing NBU Server software.
Server software includes Client binaries.

Hi All,

The issue was resolved and i installed Netbackup server software successfully.

The issue was related to wmi components of the server and some components were missing i guess

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my delayed reply.........

Hi Marianne

I installed EEB as per the technote says we need to disable the postgresql if it has already installed.
