Not using all 10 tape drives keeps saying pick from 0-5

NathanNieman

I have a IBMTS3310.  I have 10 drives and up to say a week or two ago I have been able to use all 10 drives.

Server is windows 2008 R2 SP1

Master/Media is the same server

Netbackup 7.5.0.6

Here is what I am seeing when I go look at the storage units.

It says ten but when I try to save I get this error.

120px_Capture.JPG

Windows see all 9 "One is down for repair"

120px_Capture2.JPG

Here is what I see on the activity monitor

120px_Capture.1JPG.JPG

IBMTS3310 see all drives working fine

120px_Capture3.JPG

I have deleted and re added these drive.  Installed the updated drivers, up graded the code on the TS3310 nothing has worked

Any suggestions or help would be great I need all these drive or my duplications will take forever.

My setup for backups are

All but Lotus notes for the a IBM VTL, then are writen to tape on the IBM3310.

No update in 4 days....

I see 3 robots attached to this media server with 46 drives in total.
Sure one media server can handle this many devices?

10 drives across the 3 robots are in use on the media server. (well, they were in use when vmoprcmd output was taken...)

Robot 1 may have 10 drives, but they are not all of same density - mix of hcart2 and 3:

robot      1    -    TLD    -       -  -          -                     {3,0,2,1}
  drive    -    2 hcart2    7      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.000   {2,0,3,0}
  drive    -    3 hcart2    1      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.001   {2,0,4,0}
  drive    -    4 hcart2    5      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.002   {2,0,6,0}
  drive    -    6 hcart3    5  DISABL  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.004   MISSING_PATH:{2,0,6,0}:106808697
  drive    -    8 hcart3    6      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.005   {3,0,1,0}
  drive    -    9 hcart3   10      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.006   {3,0,2,0}
  drive    -   10 hcart3    8      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.007   {3,0,3,0}
  drive    -   11 hcart3    2      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.008   {3,0,4,0}
  drive    -   12 hcart3    4      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.009   {3,0,5,0}
  drive    -   45 hcart2    3      UP  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.010   {2,0,5,0}

4 x hcart2
6 x hcart3 (of which one has MISSING PATH).
That leaves 5 usable hcart3 drives in TLD(1).

So, you need to change STU  uns40-88-hcart3-robot-tld-1 to have 5 drives.
(Update to 6 when MISSING PATH is fixed.)

Create another STU: uns40-88-hcart2-robot-tld-1 with 4 drives and hcart2 density.

1st screenshot is too small - I cannot read anything.

Please show cmd version of config and resource allocations.

On master server :
bpstulist -label <name> -U
nbrbutil -dump

On media server:
tpconfig -l
vmoprcmd -d

Ok first post was to long I guess lets try again

Label:                uns40-88-hcart3-robot-tld-1
Storage Unit Type:    Media Manager
Host Connection:      uns40-88
Number of Drives:     10
On Demand Only:       no
Max MPX/drive:        1
Density:              hcart3 - 1/2 Inch Cartridge 3
Robot Type/Number:    TLD / 1
Max Fragment Size:    1048576 MB

LOL! I should've asked for MDS Allocation section of output only!

We now need to compare master server output with the commands on the media server.

For name I am guessing this is the name of the TS3310.

Also master/media are the same looking for where to run that commant at.

Sorry here are the other two.

and the VMo will only let me attach one at a time.

If you can, when no jobs are running run:

nbrbutil -resetall

(It will kill any running jobs)

we sometimes get 'ghost allocations' in MDS, this will clear them (you won't see them in nbrbutil -dump)

Other option is try

nbrbutil -syncAllocations (try this first)

NathanNieman

^ ok I will give that a try.

NathanNieman

syncall didn't do anything.

I just did resetall and we will see what happens.

Helps if I look at all the attachments properly ...

  drive    -    6 hcart3    5  DISABL  -          IBM.ULT3580-TD5.004   MISSING_PATH:{2,0,6,0}:106808697

The path to this drive has disappeared ....

Can you confirm the OS sees all the drives, scan is a good command to run, in volmgr\bin dir.

Another option is to look in emm and mds logs to saee how many of those 10 (or 9 at the moment) drives NBU thinks it has ....

He will still need 2 separate STUs for TLD(1).
One for hcart3 and another for hcart2.

Only 6 x hcart3 drives (5 usable) and 4 x hcart2 in TLD(1).

Yes, good point ...

NathanNieman

Yes the issue came out to be that 4 of my drives when re imported came in as Hcart2 instead of 3.

Once I changed these we are back up and working.  Thank you Marianne.  Sorry it was a holiday weekend so I didn't get a chance to get back online and report back.
