Hi netbackup 7.0 Windows server 2003 Master & Media server - will not use drive 2 on our quantum px502
When trying a reset, then a drive up, it becomes active for 5 or so minutes or so, then changes the status in activity monitor to DOWN-TLD
any ideas?
doing an "s d" in robtest, it does not get a source address, but it does report a tape:

TLD(0) cannot dismount drive 2, slot 28 already is full
in the windows Application event event log.
Used robot to manually move this tape to a free slot
downed, up -> success !!

Can you see that drive 2 contains a cartridge but the robot does not know which slot the tape came from? Compare with output of drive 1 where the robot knows that the tape came from slot 35.
Easiest maybe to open the robot, manually eject the tape from drive 2 and put it in an empty slot.
Close the robot, wait for it to come online, then inventory in NBU.
Please also add VERBOSE entry to vm.conf (in ...\veritas\volmgr) and restart NetBackup Device Management service.
If drive goes down again, the reason will be logged in Event Viewer Application log. Device errors will be logged in Event Viewer System log.

Great stuff!! You found the problem yourself! Please run Inventory in NBU to update tape location.
Please ask everyone in your team NOT to open robot and manually insert tapes while there are tapes in any of the tape drives.
As you can see, if another tape is in the slot where unloaded tape needs to go, the drive will be down'ed because the tape cannot be returned to its slot.
