Open File Backups

Hello all,

I have a question regarding the netbackup Open File backup feature. I have these backups that I'm trying to do that I have VSP enabled for. There are these sql files that are in use when doing the backup and I can never seem to get these .ldf and .mdf files backed up.

Is there any other modifications that I can make that will back these files up beyond the wait time and file read settings?

WiIliam,

exclude them, ask the DBA if they need them first, in an email CYOA if you know what I mean!

VSP is intened for file-oriented open-file backups. Web server, file server, user laptop/desktop computer.

To do a hot database backup you'll need an backup agent to deal with transactional issues, like the NetBackup for Microsoft SQL Server Agent.

The only other choice would be either look into utlizing VSS rather than VSP or bring SQL down and backup the files cold.

Will,

I agree with Paul, you need to have SQL Agent to backup databases ... or else you can ask DBA to stop the SQL services at a particular time so that you can backup those files.

If DBA is already performing database level then you must exclude them from backup so that it will not give you return code1.
