Optimised Duplication Between MSDP and VTL

NBU 7.5.0.7

Hi all,

Just wondering about an SLP configuration... Backup runs to an MSDP then duplicated to and OST VTL.

Because the VTL is OST enabled, will it be an optimised duplication?

From what I've read in the dedup guide optimised dupes can only go from MSDP to MSDP.

Just thought as it's and OST VTL I might be in luck..

There is no such thing as OST enabled VTL. Vendor-supplied OST plugin installed on NBU media server is for disk pools only. VTL may be on dedupe storage, but is presented to OS and NBU as normal tape. Duplication to VTL will be rehydrated.

Optimized duplication mostly only happen on two devices of same type :

e.g.

MSDP- > MSDP

Data Domain > Data Domain

Cross type duplication will be non-optimized (full size replication):

e.g

VTL -> MSDP

Data Doman -> MSDP
