Oracle Policy Setup Standards

Hi,

I'm setting up a whole new Netbackup 7 environment for backing up our Oracle Databases.

We want to backup, Full backup Weekly every weekend, Incremental Daily during the night on weekdays, Full Monthly Last weekend of Every Month and Full Yearly last weekend of every year.

My idea is to have a policy for each of these 4 backup types, each calling a script on the various clients. 1st question is, Is this a good way of doing this? Or any other suggestions

2nd question is how would you use this configuration to backup multiple databases on the same host using scripts? It seems there is no way of linking a backup select script to a particular host?

Thanks in advance for any help

You can create different policies or else one policy with multiple schedules. Just be sure to create a differently named Application Backup Schedule for each of the different Automatic schedules (daily, weekly, etc..) You also need to hardcode these Application Backup schedules in the backup script(s).

Most of us create different policies for database backups.

See this O-L-D but still relevant TN for details:

as well as this more recent TN:

I'm not sure that I understand your 2nd question...

A script is very much linked to a particular client. The NBU binaries on a client include a number of sample RMAN scripts in /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/samples/rman.

These scripts can be modified or you can create your own on the Oracle client. This script name is then specified in the Backup Selection tab of the policy.
