Oracle Restore Performance Slow

Hi,

We are facing an issue with Oracle DB Restore performance.

Our setup Netbackup 6.0 MP6 Windows 2003 Master Server

Solaris 10 Media Server Netbackup 6.0 MP6

Client: Oracle Agent 6.0 MP 6. on Solaris 9, Oracle 8.

When we do the restore, we are getting 2 KBPS speed and the restore takes upto 5 days to complete.

Symantec support suggested that we set the below on both Master/Media Servers and Client which we did and the issue was resolved and we were getting more than 10 KBPS.

SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS = 131072, NET_BUFFER_SZ = 262144, NET_BUFFER_SZ_REST = 262144.

But the issue of slow performance has returned after we upgraded to 6.5.3 on Master Server and 6.5.2 Oracle Agent.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok,

After through troubleshooting and spending many days with this issue, it has been resolved.

Solution

Disable compression in the NBU Policy and the restore performance is back to approx 10 kbps.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Take a look at this document:

How MPX_RESTORE_DELAY can be used to improve restore performance on a NetBackup Oracle Recovery Manager backup that was multiplexed

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/242380.htm

Try set it at 60 seconds and see if you have better restore performance, then try 120 seconds, etc. until you get the best result in your environment.
