For Oracle trouble, you need to look at client RMAN .out file and dbclient log.

We need the client's dbclient log that matches Job Details in your opening post.

The date in Job details is 8/12/2012. Job starts at 8:16:03 AM and ends 11:36:45 AM.

You have given us 13 dbclient logs from 30 July up to 12 August.

log.081212 starts at 00:00:03  and ends at 06:41:07.

Please give us dbclient log that matches the date and time in Job details.

Just had a look at the Rman log file.

Recovery Manager complete.

Script /usr/openv/netbackup/ext/db_ext/oracle/rman_cold_bkp_JDESPNPD.sh

Please double-check your script.
Seems you have some sql command in the script that does not work while database is down.

Hi Maria,

Timestamp is different because the client and master server time are different. Around 5 hrs difference is there between these servers

Client server is 5 hrs behind master server.

Client server is 5 hrs behind master server.

NOT GOOD!!

Client and server should not differ by that much.
Client will check with master for successful backup based on client's local time.
Restore may become an issue...
Couple of minutes time difference should be fine.

what is the sql command that it's trying to execute at the end there?

after the BACKUP DATABASE it should be

sql 'alter database open';

Hi Maria,

As i said earlier, i have successfull hot backups for the same databases..

We have found out that there is a packet drop between database server and RMAN catalog server at the time of failure
