Orale RMAN job not gettging priorty

Hi all

Scenario

While restore Oracle RMAN backup, restore wait to get drive. At the same time, other 4 jobs are in queue of Oracle RMAN backup and one active job of same policy. After completion of active job, queue job picks the drive for backup instead giving drive control to restore job. How to configure such that restores job get first priority to hold drive than queue job.

Is it because till parent backup job will not complete, restore job can't initiate. I am confused with restore job to get higher prioritize?

Thanks in Advance

It a known issue with Netbackup. The allocation of the tape drive isn't released because more backup jobs are in queue.

You can do two thins that might help slightly:
  • Issue nbpemreq -suspend_scheduling  - This will prevent more jobs of being scheduled. Enable scheduling with "nbpemreq -resume_scheduling"
  • If NBU 6.x or 7.x give the restore job priority 999999.
Symantec are working to improve the allocation for restores.

I have checked even media is not releasing with  RMAN backup jobs. If any media is required for RMAN restoration job, it picked by RMAN backup job than restore job. Even increasing job priorty didn't work. Media released if normal backup (not database backup ) is using the media.
