Just a wild idea, but ….

Where are you running this import from ???

EG. RDP session to server from your laptop ...

1/23/2017 4:24:30 PM - positioned DIF768; position time: 00:00:00

1/23/2017 4:24:30 PM - begin reading

1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=26856) could not write BPBRM_READ_FILENAME message to stderr: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.  (10054)

1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=26856) could not write EXIT STATUS to OUTSOCK

1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Info tar32(pid=28944) done. status: 40: network connection broken

client process aborted(50)

It's starts around 10.xx in the morning and runs happily all day ....  4.30pm could be 'going home time' - so you logoff, expecting the job to continue running ... where as Windows will have other ideas and will kill off any processes spawned during the RDP session (eg. the import) ....

A bit more detail is required, please:

1) Version of NetBackup Client of the original client.

2) Version of NetBackup Server of the original backup Media Server.

3) Version of NetBackup Server of the now importing Media Server.

4) Version of NetBackup Server of the now importing Master Server.

5) Where is the backup image being imported?  On tape, on disk?

6) If it is on tape, was any form of tape media encryption used to create the original backup?

7) Has the backup image being imported since expired from the original NetBackup domain that it was written within?  (I ask because I'm wondering if we might still be able to list the backup image in that original/source NetBackup domain).

8) Can you attach the whole activity monitor job log (as a text file please - not pasted) for the failed phase 2 import?

Thank you.

Hi SDO,

6) If it is on tape, was any form of tape media encryption used to create the original backup?
No encryption

7) Has the backup image being imported since expired from the original NetBackup domain that it was written within? (I ask because I'm wondering if we might still be able to list the backup image in that original/source NetBackup domain).
Time expires 01/10/2018

8) Can you attach the whole activity monitor job log (as a text file please - not pasted) for the failed phase 2 import?

That's a good start.

9) Ok, could you attach (as a text file) the portion of the NetBackup bptm log from NetBackup server "saosapp07"... but just the portion:

...from:   1/23/2017 4:20:00 PM

...to:       1/23/2017 4:40:00 PM

10) Could you attach this text/log file from server "saosapp07":

     <Install_dir>\VERITAS\NetBackup\db\media\errors

Thank you.

1) The text file seems to be a re-extract of the activity monitor, which we've already seen.  I was after a segment (time section) of the bptm log from the Media Server which was/is performing the tape read.  Do you need a hand locating the "bptm log file"?

2) Ok - no recent tape media errors.

Hi mph999,

Yes I saw something regarding run import from RDP and now I'm performing a test using the console direct. Let's see if works beucause is taking long time due to the quantity of data to import.

But the error already happened when I was logged on server.

Anyway thanks for your coment!

SDO,

Please tell me where I can find the bptm log file!

If I've read the previous info correctly, then on server:  saosapp07

...the bptm log files should be in:

...if Linux/Unix:   /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bptm

...if Windows:    ?:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\bptm

.

And FYI - here's a super posting from @mph999 regarding logging:

https://vox.veritas.com/t5/Articles/Quick-Guide-to-Setting-up-logs-in-NetBackup/ta-p/811951

Good SDO!

Follow bptm logs attached.

Many thanks!

All I can see in that bptm log excerpt is:

16:31:00.621 [22480.12736] <2> mm_terminate: EXITING with status 150

...and no other level <16> error or level <32> critical errors.

.

It appears that bptm child pid 12736 was talking with bpbrm pid 26856:

16:24:30.559 [22480.12736] <2> signal_parent: set bpbrm media ready event (pid = 26856)

...and a recap that acitivity monitor showed that bpbrm was unable to write to OUTSOCK:

1/23/2017 4:24:30 PM - positioning DIF768 to file 35
1/23/2017 4:24:30 PM - positioned DIF768; position time: 00:00:00
1/23/2017 4:24:30 PM - begin reading
1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=26856) could not write BPBRM_READ_FILENAME message to stderr: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054)
1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Error bpbrm(pid=26856) could not write EXIT STATUS to OUTSOCK
1/23/2017 4:31:00 PM - Info tar32(pid=28944) done. status: 40: network connection broken
client process aborted(50)

I think we're going to need level 3 bptm logging on the Media Server doing teh tape reading, and then retry the phase 2 import, because there's not enough detail as to why bptm child pid 12736 suddenly decided to quit with status 150.

SDO,

Hoe can I proceed wiht level 3 bptm logging in NetBackup? Is it doing the phase 1 "initiate import" ?

To set the BPTM logging for a Media Server... in the NetBackup Admin Console GUI -> NetBackup Management -> Host Properties -> Media Servers, then double click the required "media server name", select the "Logging" option, then adjust the "BPTM logging level:" to "3", click Apply, click OK.  No need to restart NetBackup for this to take effect.

I assumed that you were doing a phase 2 import, i.e. I assumed that you had already performed the phase 1 import.  Do you know which you have done, or are doing?

Please ensure bpbrm log folder exist as well. And level 3 logging.

Hello folks,

The last test that I did was completed with success and the problem was exactly that @mph999 sad regarding RDP session!

I had success logging directly on console.

Many thanks to all that help's me in this issue!
