Possible to restore files from only a Cumulative Incremental backup?

rsworden
Not applicable
On a particular Windows server, a NetBackup Cumulative Incremental backup is performed daily, to back up a few files - database images that are created each day. The disk on the server is wiped out or rebuilt and so is empty. The original Full backup is lost or unavailable. Is it possible to restore files from only the most recent Cumulative Incremental backup tapes without beginning the restore with a Full backup tape?

Yes, you can BUT you need to understand Cumulative backup only includes changes after the last Full backup. So, if everthing changed after the last successful Full backup then your cumulative backup is as good as Full but if only part of data changed after last successful Full backup then you will be able to restore the changes only.

In the backup restore interface (BAR), just select the time frame where the cumulative backup was made.

Yes, It is possible... Since you have stated the DB image is created every day then your latest cummulative backup should be good as the full backup. Just go to Backup, Archive and Restore window and select the particular image by clicking on the "Backup History" button situated on the right side where the time frame is given and select the required image.
