Sorry, not possible with agent backups - only MS-Windows and Standard policy types.

@billvel
Is there a reason why you want to stop AV during backup time?

It is normally sufficient to exclude NBU binaries from AV.

Re: Pre and Post script for SQL agent backup

Hi Marianne,
Good Day.

The reason for i want to exclude AV is some of the SQL server database(BLOB enabled ex:G\ drive) agents are taking more time than usual.

after i select exception for G:\(BLOB enabled) backup timing down hence i'm looking for pre and post script to the netbackup job to disable the antivirus i would appreciate your further advice on this matter.

Billvel.

Re: Pre and Post script for SQL agent backup

Maybe you should ask on a Microsoft and Symantec AV forum if it is a good idea to exclude SQL data from AV scanning.

I found an old blog that could still be relevant (or not with BLOB storage), but I guess fellow SQL users may be able to give best advice.

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mdegre/2009/08/26/microsoft-sql-server-and-antivirus/

The blog suggests that SQL data should be excluded from AV.

From a NetBackup point of view, pre- and post- scripts are not supported with agent backups.
These scripts are ignored with agent backups.

Re: Pre and Post script for SQL agent backup

A few more links in support of Mariannes and the requirement or not for AV to run against the SQL Server installation.

In general, & certainly if we encounter performance issues, we ensure that SQL Server is excluded from any AV scans or on-access scanning. This is purely from a SQL Server operational point of view.
