Could check to see if this applies to you https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100050802

I hav already seen that it doesn't helps.This the full error that I get:
Configuring Media Server Deduplication Pool <server_name> -system call failed(11)
Reconfigration failed for storage server PureDisk:windows.system call failed
-----------

Can you tell me the steps to create MSDP like I have created but it's not configuring? Like what I'm doing wrong?
Can you please assist I'm so confused.

System call failed is as the name imply a system call to Windows, where Windows wasn't able to complete the requested operation. In order to find out the reason, you need to look at the debug logs.

Try running :

vxlogview -p 51216 -t 00:01:00

This command will report ALL activities 1 minute back from command was run, and should be able to show what call went wrong.

More vxlogview help can be found in "How to use the "vxlogview" command to view Veritas NetBackup Unified logging entries"

See : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100017099

You may have to delete the old configuration before creating a new - see : How to delete a MSDP old configuration  : https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100038015

Hi @Nicolai,

Thanks for detailed answer. I earlier used "tpconfig -dsh -all_hosts" and "tpconfig -delete -storage_server <servername> -stype <StorageType> -sts_user_id <userid>" to delete the old

The PDDE_deleteConfig.bat command gives ERROR:
C:\Program Files\Veritas\pdde>PDDE_deleteConfig.bat
ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.
EtcPath=
An error has occured while attempting to configure. Aborting...

Please can you assist, thanks

Hi @Shehkh4

I think you best option is to open a support ticket with Veritas.

They have the ability to do remote session, to see what happens.

/Nicolai

I don't think I have the privilege to do so but I am doing all the steps to create MSDP pool I don't know why it's giving me this error?

Should I send you the output of this command: vxlogview -p 51216 -t 00:01:00 ?

HI @Shehkh4

It may help someone determine the problem. Also what is the storage you are trying to setup as MSDP - is it local disk, SAN storage or something else?

Finally - include the log file pdde-config.log (it should end up in the path <MSDP_Location>\log\pdde-config.log).

Cheers

Hi @Nicolai @davidmoline ,
The storage I'm trying to setup as MSDP is a local disk the normal disk that I initialized, it is also where backups are stored.
I have attached the vxlogview file and pdde-config.log files, the output of is as follows:
C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin>vxlogview -p 51216 -t 00:01:00
2/7/2023 11:54:45.706 [MediaPerformanceTimer::calculateStateChange] : load_avg_short=0, load_avg_long=0.633333, avg_freemem_short=5.52516e+006, avg_freemem_long=5.64502e+006

pdde-config.log is attached. vxlogview -p 51216 -t 00:01:00 is also attached.
I Have Attached both the files; can you see the problem now.
Thanks

btw I ran MSDP configuration and now PDDE_deleteConfig.bat is giving Output as follows:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\pdde>PDDE_deleteConfig.bat
EtcPath=E:\MSDP\etc
Warning: You are about to delete the storage server configuration and the deduplication services will be stopped.
Enter Y to continue; N to end: Y

Install path=C:\Program Files\Veritas\pdde\
The operation completed successfully.

Hi @Shehkh4

Looking at the pdde_config.log file, the error appears to be what @Nick_Morris indicated previously - did you verify the fix from that article (proxy settings causing the issue)?

Is the media server also the master server?

David

@Shehkh4

Also for the logview output this doesn't show what is happening when you ran the command, you need to go back to when you ran the command so the "-t" option needs to be longer.

David

Yes, the Master and Media Server are on the same machine/server (means also same IP), and I didn't saw the proxy settings message How to diagnose them?

Thanks

Hi @Shehkh4

Did you read the article? It tells you what to check and how to fix.

David

Hi @davidmoline @Nicolai ,
The output of the vxlogview command was a little long so I have attached the file.

About the Article I missed it actually, So I'm on it to read.

Hi @davidmoline @Nicolai @Nick_Morris,
Okay so I have read it, The following is the output of netsh winhttp show proxy is as follows:
netsh winhttp show proxy
Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
Direct access (no proxy server).

Mines a little different it's because of certificates I think just check the spad file I will attach the file and also this is a spad.txt file in the same path I don't know if it's alright or not.
And the pdde-config.log is also attached.

Thanks

@davidmoline
Also, I have one thing in mind.
Do tell me that Origin Master server and Target Master server should have same IP Or different?

Thanks

Okay so the Target Server had high security I changed it to medium as medium was also for the Origin Server, Still MSDP is not configuring

Hi @Shehkh4

Something looks wroing with the environment in general - the spad log is showing a host certificate error (which is a good effort given it is the master itself):

February 07 14:32:27 ERR [00000198FBABFDE0]: -1: NBUAPI::ValidateHost: failed to get token
February 07 14:32:27 ERR [00000198FBABFDE0]: -1: validate_host_cert: validate the host WINDOWS uuid 73e9adcf-055f-4148-8e28-dd0e44afb78b cert failed.
February 07 14:32:27 ERR [00000198FBABFDE0]: 25056: Agent at WINDOWS certificate is invalid.

 I'm not sure how this can happen - but if you are inable to fix yourself, best get support to help.

Another option maybe to reinstall NetBackup and start again (if this is possible)

David
