Problem to add one Netapp on new Master Server 7.0.1

Ramamola
Level 4

Good afternoon,

Is the first time I install a Master Server and I have problems to configuring a Netapp FAS2040 NetBackup. Currently the platform is as installed (default installation) and the steps I have them a little lost.

Master Server: Linux 2.6 NetBackup 7.0.1 Master NetApp FAS2040

I have one Netapp set up and ready, the system sees it, but not how to make NetBackup recognize it, I want it configured as disk storage and I think I have to use the command. / Vmpool but every time I want to create (vmpool add) or (vmpool create) nothing happens.

Do I can indicate what steps to follow please?

 A thousand thanks.

the db configuration file is not available.

Check if all of the following exist as well as file size (size must not be 0)

/usr/openv/var/global/server.conf
/usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf
/usr/openv/db/data/vxdbms.conf

Have you decided where NetApp needs to be backed up to?

Have you configured backup devices to backup NetApp data directly to tape (SAN attached backup)? Or will you backup NetApp across the network to Storage Unit on the Master or a Media Server?

Based on answers to above questions we can provide advice and guidance.

Did you read through 'Configuring disk storage' section in the manual?

Do you plan to implement BasicDisk or AdvancedDisk?

After determining requirements, use the Device Configuration Wizard rather than command line.  it's so much easier that way.

"I want it configured as disk storage"

MMM - missed that one...

See NBU Admin Guide I to see how NFS mount can be used as Basic Disk Storage Unit.

Mount NetApp folder on backup server and configure this folder as Basic Disk STU.

Ensure folder is shared and mounted with root access to NFS mount.

For first, you have to create NFS share on NetApp and mount it on your media server. Then create storage unit as you like under the mount point of this volume.

Thanks for the info, I had not seen the documentation

The documentation is for backing up NDMP data, not to use it as Storage Unit.

See posts below for STU usage.

The problem is in the NetBackup Master Server,

The system now sees the LUN Netapp, but no works already netbackup correctly, the pool volume option appears disabled, if I try to view the licenses, the error 25.
Another option as how to configure the  OpsCenter on properties of Master Server, waits... mucho time,  and  show the error 195.

 What could be the problem?

recent firewall changes?

run bpps -x on the Master server

ensure pbx is running

Seems you have more problems than just configuring NetApp.

Status 25 looks the master is battling to communicate with itself.

Please post output of bpps -x as per Bill's request.
Also confirm that iptables is stopped and disabled.

Check/confirm that you have the following entries in /etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1 localhost
<ip-address>
lbackup02

This TN might also be relevant: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH157329

To configure Advanced Disk (Storage Server and Disk Pool), you need Enterprise Disk license.

You can also check license keys from cmd with get_license_key

I saw you mention you have LUN's configured this will be if you are trying to use your NAS as a SAN, so what is your configuration? The first thing we need si to know the filer side and how is configured if you have a Qtree configured be sure you give the proper access rights to the master server as root user and mount this in your master as NFS mount point.

If you are using the FC through iSCSI and you have it mount in to your box with a iSCSI client than a simple df -k should tell you if you can see that disk.

In both cases you need to configure the DSU and include the mounted disk either iSCSI, FC or NFS.

Dont confuse the Filer Backup process that is total different thing and I think is probably what your issue is, if you are planing to use the filer as your disk repository to backup your clients you need to mount the LUN or Qtree in your Master/Media Server though the OS, but if you are trying to backup the filer data than you need to decide what type of configuration you will use if it will be 3way-NDMP, Remote-NDMP or Single-NDMP, but as I said what is your goal

I configured a NetApp as follows:
A volume and within it 5 luns of 200GB, all for fiber.
The server detects the 5 luns, but don´t know if I have to format it from the server, or NetBackup detect and format it "this I don´t know".

thanks

I get the feeling that PBX has some kind of problem.

nbemm is not running.

Please try the following:

Stop NBU:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup stop

Stop pbx:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged stop

Verify everything is stopped with 'bpps -x'

Start pbx:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged start

Start NBU:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/netbackup

Check if nbemm starts up (bpps).

Keep monitoring for a couple of minutes to see if emm stays up.

If it dies, check emm logs:

vxlogview -o 111 -t 00:10:00

(this will check emm log for last 10 minutes. Adjust if you have started NBU more than 10 minutes ago.)

For you NetApp San Attached volumes - you need to create a filesystem on it an mount it.

Hi Marianne

This is the status, nbemm not start, not manual not automatically. The solution i believe, reinstall the master server. not?

Have you at least TRIED to check emm log ?

vxlogview -o 111 -t 00:10:00  (adjust -t to include startup attempt)

Reinstall will make sence if we know why emm is not starting and what went wrong with initial installation.

the db configuration file is not available.

Check if all of the following exist as well as file size (size must not be 0)

/usr/openv/var/global/server.conf
/usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf

In the end I had to reinstall the master, and has already installed the database. Everything perfect.
The LUN working properly with these commands: pvcreate / vgcreate / lvcreate.
And in the  master server  created one AdvanceDisk, DISKPOOL run ok.

One more question. Can i add a new hot volume (path) to DISKPOOL? how?

Thanks!!

PD:

Today i installed a new linux server, and  i installed other netbackup master server.
The same mistake, BBDD not exist, so I had to reinstall the product again to install it. Is rare!
