Hello All,

what would be the best option for upgrade of all netbackup clients from 6.5 or 6.0 to 7.1 in the windows environment more than 3000 server. Can we push client from another client if they are on same domain.

Unix Master has this capability to push to unix machines, need help on windows...

You can push the install out by just running the client installer on another server, but there are some restrictions so you will need to gather the client list first and may have to run it from 3 different servers dependant on what clients you have.

You will need to do the following:

Windows 2003 32 bit to push to Windows 2003 32 bit

Windows 2003 64 bit to push to Windows 2003 64 bit

Windows 2008 64 bit to push to Windows 2008 64 bit

Obviosuly if you have anything else (XP etc.) then you have to do likewise

But basically push to same O/S and bits

Hope this helps

It is better to use LiveUpdate to upgrade vast number of client. Please check LiveUpdate Guide for more detail. http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3649

LiveUpdate in NBU 6.5.x will not upgrade the clients to a 7.x version; it was limited to "minor" version upgrades.

However, I would HIGHLY recommend setting up a LiveUpdate server after upgrading to 7.1.x.  This version will upgrade future clients.

We have upgraded around 600+ Windows servers manually logging into the server and upgraded from Netbackup 6.5 - Netbackup 7.1

Live update is also a better option.

you can use system center or SMS  to push the install upgrades out to window servers using the slient install scripts that come with the software.

It seems that you are to push  client software from x64 machine to x86 machine, or vice versa, and installer counld not found software package for target platform in appropriate folder.
Have you only copied PC_Clnt\x86(or x64) folder to local disk, and launched installer? Try to copy whole PC_Clnt folder.

BTW, you should not perform cross platform installation as Mark wrote.

SCCM, Altiris and other solutions are availble for Push Deployments. Just create package (Modify silentinstall.cmd according your environment i.e. Master / Media server name and Default install path etc.)
