QFS with NBU

Hello,

We have BSCS application from LHS installed on QFS on Solaris 10.

We tried to backup the application files with NBU, but it was incoherent after the restore.

I have two questions:

-is NBU compatible with QFS (not SAM-QFS) on Solaris?
-How could we backup flatfiles of BCS application from LHS with NBU ONLINE (online is important)?

Thanks

I think you need to turn the question around since it not a "normal" database like Oracle or DB2.

You need to ask how LHS (or is it  ericsson now)  how you backup BSCS consistent if its "online" during backup

You can find Netbackup comparability matrices here:

I agree with Nicolai.

Your issue is not with the filesystem, but with online state of your application.

Speak to your application vendor...

Hi TMI1,

You didn't provide any information about the BSCS infrastructure and what part of the application you are trying to "flat file" backup - and how your tried to make the restore.

BSCS can have a rather complex setup and can potentially run on an environment with a single server and on one with up to many servers.

E.g. take a look at this setup http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx%2F4AA4-1489ENW.pdf where Oracle is actually the backend serving the BSCS application. (application is running on HP-UX but that shoudn'tmake any difference)

NetBackup can - as Nicolair mentioned - be backup up via the Oracle RMAN agent for NetBackup.

But maybe you need to quisce the application on the same or another server before you start the backup og the underlying backup.

Yet another option could be to quesce the application and put det database in backup mode (most Enterprise databases would support this), snapshot the filesystem (or the volume manager if such is in use), mount it and run a flat file backup. The same could be done with the application.
If snapshot is done at Filesystem level, then QFS must support this.

So again, please share a little more info about the application and the infrastructure and we can maybe help you better.
