Query regarding OpsCenter

Hi All,

We had this step documented in one of our documents

Could anyone please let me know whether disabling the https protocol is the same as changing the default shutdown port?

Why is this disabling of https protocol being suggested? Is there any specific reason? What happens if we do not change the default shutdown port?

Disable use of https protocol with OpsCenter (use http only).

#/opt/SYMCOpsCenterGUI/bin/goodies/configurePorts.sh -shutdownPort 8181

Regards

Where is it suggested?

1) That command changes the shutdown port, and does not disable https.

Here's another example of the shutdown port being changed:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/opscenter-port

It would seem that in the example above they changed the shutdown port because that port was being used by another application, and so OpsCenter could not function correctly until OpsCenter was re-configured to use a different port.

.

2) Why would you want to disable https?  I would have thought that one would want to disable http, no?

.

3) Also, I would have thought that one would also want to improve the security of OpsCenter, e.g.:

How to disable SSLv3 in NetBackup OpsCenter

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH225656.html

.

4) If your build/deployment instructions do cover disabling https, are the instructions not working?  If they are not working, could you post the instructions and the error?

In order to get the OpsCenter alerts,we have suggested it in our internal documents. I just want to know how can we disable the http or https protocol for OpsCenter?

Regarding the 1st point,I have gone through the link provided and am clear about that.

Yes ,we have now seen that actually the http port has to be disabled not the https

The OpsCenter is working fine, but our query is ,why is disabling the http protocol mentioned and the command to assigna port to shutdown port is given,is there anything we are missing to understand?

Hi

You are not very clear on what is going on here.

In order to get the OpsCenter alerts,we have suggested it in our internal documents.<<< Who suggested this? You? If it was you, then why are you suggesting "Disable use of https protocol with OpsCenter (use http only)."????

I just want to know how can we disable the http or https protocol for OpsCenter? Once again, why do you want to do this? And please dont say because of internal documentation.

Share the doc or the requirement of what and why you want to do this.

Leaving behind the internal documentation, please kinldy let me know if Symantec suggests to disable the http protocol in any scenario and if yes ,how can that be disabled?

Do assigning a port to shutdown port have any significance with regards to OpsCenter.
