Hello,
I have on HP-UX server Oracle databases. This server is media server with netbackup 7.0.1.
This server is connected to two SAN fabrics. In one fabric is 8 tapes and in the second fabric is 8 tapes.
I have performed on this server RMAN backups of databases by running hot_bck_oracle.sh script.
Backups are created to two copies simultaneously, one copy to tape in fabric1 and second copy to tape in fabric2 (attribute multiple copies).
This week I have failure of one fabric and Oracle backup failed totally. One job write to tape but because the second tape was inaccessible,
rman got the this error
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ch00 channel at 10/11/2011 00:42:33
ORA-19506: failed to create sequential file, name="nbs2acc_backup_1953_1_764209227", parms=""
ORA-27028: skgfqcre: sbtbackup returned error
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:
VxBSACreateObject: Failed with error:
Server Status: Media server is not active
and the backup was unsuccessful because backup of archlogs and control files was not performed.
How to solve this problem?
Exists any parameter in netbackup, to set minimum of successful backup copies (for me will be 1) and
then RMAN will continue in the backup (archlogs, control file)?
Thanks.
Marian

R U talking about inline copy ??
But orale backup should not fail on fabric1

Disable 2nd copy for now. Just send backup to active STU.

Yes, inline backup.
RMAN doesn't know if backup is multiplexed. If Netbackup hadn't sent error return code to RMAN, RMAN would have continued performing next steps (arch redo, controlfile).
Yes, I made this workaround but it was manual intervention on the next day, but every night backups have failed.
I would like to have automatic solution.

Open the schedule and check the column "if this copy fails" .
What is selected for Copy 1 and 2?
Ensure that "Continue" is set for both copies.

Yes, there are continue for both.
This option is only for errors during backup, but my error occured before backups started.

NetBackup can only make this decision when the backup goes active.
