RMAN exclude of .../RMAN/control/lost+found

Hi folks,

a user wants to exclude the above directory (/oracle/admin/RMAN/control/lost+found)  from his RMAN-triggered backup job.

Example:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpbackup -p RZ2_UNX_MAN_LAN_POL_R06M -k ARCHIVE_RMAN_29.11.17_14-00 -w -L /oracle/backup/logs/backup_datafiles_NBU.sh_RMAN_29.11.17_14-00.log /oracle/admin/RMAN/control

Now as far as I know the unix exclude_list file does not work for type UBAK, so how can he exclude something from that?

any help is appreciated.

Bert

Hello,

In user backup you can specify the list of files under /control folder in backup file.

It only backup those files mentioned in file.

Thanks & Regards

What exactly does the user want to backup?
File-level backup of actual control files?

Surely bpbackup is NOT  'RMAN-triggered backup' ?

Hi Marianne,

sorry - you are right - it's "just" a normal User Backup but backing up oracle objects . He wants to backup everything under /oracle/admin/RMAN/control except .../control/lost+found.

It boils down to the general question of can you define any kind of excludes for a UBAK schedule job?

You can use  "!" neither on the command line nor in a -f file list - that only work for restores.

Regards,

Bert

As per this TN: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH157529
you are correct. exclude_list won't work.

The only other option is to use wilcards in the file list to ensure only required files are backed up.

PS:
I am still curious to know if file-level backup of control files outside of rman will be any good when restored...

Hello,

agreed with Marianne, doublecheck what is the contents of /oracle/admin/RMAN/control, if there are live database/control files here, is it not a good backup method.

If not, then "RMAN" keyword is confusing here, the purpose of this post is about something completely else.
