Re: robtest commands mode sense failing

Hi Darren,

I hope you are having a good day. I needed some help regarding the "mode_sense failed" error. Right now none of backups are working and status of drives in NBU gui is AVR where it should be TLD. Is there any technote availabel for this particular issue from Veritas where it clearly states that it is a Library issue or the issue with the communication path and not NBU itself ? It would be a great help if you can provide any such link for Veritas technote. Since, Veritas is not providing any support for the EOS versions of NetBackup in my case 7.6.0.4.

Hope to hear back from you soon.

Regards,

Ali

@AliSarwar

The "mode sense" is accompanied by a sense key error, right?

Have a look at this TN: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000013667

SCSI Sense keys describe a 'state',  which are returned when a command requests a 'check condition' status.
....

In a similar manner to Tape Alerts, SCSI Sense Keys are produced by the device, not by NetBackup.
As ASC/ASCQ alerts are sent from the hardware, it is impossible for them to be caused by NetBackup.
It has been seen that a power cycle of the drive (not soft reset) can sometimes clear ASC/ASCQ errors.

Further information on these values can be found at http://www.t10.org

To further investigate ASC/ASCQ issues, Symantec (Veritas) recommends contacting your hardware vendor.

Hi,
Take a look this. Probably is the same problem that you are facing.

I have moved this post from that 2007 discussion.

There is honestly no point in tagging onto a 10-year-old post as @Darmin_Memisevi has not posted anything since Aug 2007.
@Darren_Dunham last posted in 2014.

The 2007 solution clearly did not help @AliSarwar.

He seems to be looking for documentation to proof that this is hardware issue, not NBU.

IMHO, there should be errors in /var/adm/messages which excludes NBU from any 'blame'.
