Hi.
I just configure my new backup device in order to backup another kind of information. I would like to reuse some test tapes (used in HCART3 density) in my new jobs using HCART2 density but net backup do not allow it to me.
I tryied to expire and delete the media but nothing happens.
New tapes are working perfect.
Is there any way to "format" the media?
Thanks in advice

If you have checked and confirmed that the media and and tape drives are compatible (e.g. LTO5 media with LTO6 drives), then you can change the density from cmd as follows:
vmchange -m <media id> -new_mt <density>
(Command is in ...\veritas\volmgr\bin)

Thanks for the quick response.
After doing what you suggested to me the policy seems to accept the media but the following error appears when it sould start:
"current media XXXXXX complete"
Already expired the media using :
bpexpdate -m <mediaid> -d 0 -force
bpexpdate -ev <mediaid> -d
Any other steps to make it work?
Thanks

Can you confirm that the hardware (tape and drive) are compatibile?
What is the physical media type?
And tape drive make/model?
Robot make/model?
Can you use robtest to see if the robot will mount the tape in the drive?
If the robot believes that the hardware is incompatible, it will not mount the tape and give an error message.
See this TN for robtest command usage: http://www.veritas.com/docs/000041570

Hi
Everything is compatible because I take another cartridge from my scratch pool ,non used empty one(the same type and vendor) and the policy works perfect.
LTO6 cartridge
HP LTO6 Ultrium Drive
Robot MSL4048

Please show us output of these commands:
(all these commands are in ...volmgr\bin)
tpconfig -l
vmquery -m <media-id>
(for one of the tapes with updated density)
robtest output of attempt to mount tape outside of NBU.
