Recovery of Master Server using an alternative Media Server

J_Stallwood

Hi all,

I am designing an environment for a customer whereby there will be a dedicated Master Server with its own catalog storage disks, but no directly-attached tape library - this will be assigned to a Media Server on the same site & LAN.

In the event of Master Server recovery, will recovery be effective and does anyone have experience of this situation?

Thanks
Jamie

Have a look at Alex Davies' White Paper on NetBackup High Availability:
http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/white_papers/b-whitepaper_implementing_highly_available_dr_with_veritas_netbackup_01_08_13599373.pdf
5 Different recovery options are discussed - one of which is promoting media server to master.

Hopefully this doc will answer all your questions.

based on the doc i have designed the setup... master server in MSCS cluster and all media servers connected to it.

so i have not point of faliure at all, if master fails it moves to other node,if media server fails-- master server willl move the jobs to other node
