Please make sure tape you want to remove doesnt have any important backup image.

After this confirmation expire your media, it will delete backup image information from netbackup catalog.

bpexpdate -m media_id -d date | 0

Last step you have to insert your media in library or tape drive drive and erase youre tape media.

  • In the NetBackup (tm) Administration Console, under Media and Device Management, select Media
  • In the Volumes pane, select a volume or volumes that you want to erase.
  • For a short erase, click Actions | Quick Erase. For a long erase, click Actions | Long Erase.
  • Specify the name of the media server where the drive is located, that will receive the mount request for the volume If the existing labels that are found on the media are to be overwritten, do not select Verify media label before performing operation.Click OK.
  • A dialog box is displayed, warning that this action is irreversible. Click OK to proceed with the erase action.
  • A dialog box appears, reminding you to use the Activity Monitor to view the progress and status of the action. Click OK

Firstly, expire all backups on the tape - only if you are 100% sure that you won't need to restore from this tape:

bpexpdate -m <media-id> -d 0

After this, you can select the media in the GUI, right-click and select 'Label', 'Quick Erase' or 'Erase'. If media is in the robot, it will be mounted. Any of these options will effectively wipe data from the tape.

...I believe Marianne answered this question first and so should either get the full solution, or at least a split solution!
