Rename a NetBackup media server

usman_salimi

I need to rename the newly created media server.

The media server was added with its fully qualified name (hostname.domain.com), the administrator wants it to be registered with the hostname only (short name).

Has someone done it before? If yes then please let me know the procedure.

Thanks.

Good suggestion from jmontagu

I have a alternative suggestion.

Decommision the media server and add it again with the short name. It does however require no backups are assigned to the media server.

For decomission the media server use netbackup nbdecommission command. Its stright forward process.

nbdecommsion does check to see if media, storage units or policyes are refering to the media server. It even support transfering of allocated tape from one media server to another media server.

NB: And I endose the request for using sort names. If ever the domain name need to be changed and Netbackup uses FQDN is a major pain.

Server renaming is not supported on both master and media server.

I have never done but it should be accomplished by decommissioning  and re-installing media server.

I was thinking about this - it might work by using alias etc ... however, I agree this is not supported and so the media server should be decommissioned and then readded with the correct name.
