Replace netbackup master server (virtual machine)

Hi all,

We need to replace our master server (vm - Linux RHEL 6.0 ) for a new one because of some issues we are facing due to os updates that we did recently. The backup catalog is mounted (nfs) on master server.

I want to know the steps to perform this kind of replacement.

I would think that as long as the new machine is the same hostname and IP address you would just install Netbackup and then recover the catalog (like a DR situation).

A simple catalog recovery would be enough.

To keep it simple you can prepare a VM with same name and IP. Keep it isolated at the moment. Disable all policies to make sure no jobs would run. Run catalog backup. You can run it on a Disk storage Unit so that it will be easy to copy the files. Once the catalog backup and the DR file has been secured, you can shutdown the source master server. Then on new VM install Netbackup with same version and perform catalog restore.
