We are getting error code 85 for many media while performing restores(exchange and file resotres).
On checking the media status it is showing "Frozen suspended". Tried to duplicate the images from the media but that also fails with same error.
Are these bad medias? If yes is there anyway we can duplicate the images and then restores.
we are facing this issues with many media from different different months.
Any suggestions?

Is this bptm log on the master or the media server?
If bptm log folder exists on the media server at the time that the restore is attempted, it WILL most certainly log restore actions and errors.
Symantec recommends that Vendor drivers be used.
Microsoft drivers is never a good idea...
I found references to 'err = 234' in two TN's: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH169477 and http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65340

Status 85 is a read error. The media does not necessary need to be bad, a status 85 just say I could not read - The cause can be anything in the infrastructure.
Check event log/ syslog for SCSI error messages to help identify is this really is a media related error. Try do down the drive that caused the status 85 and retry the operation.

Also you might have a dirty drive that needs to be cleaned.
At what point in the jobs are the errors occurring? At the first, or in the middle??

It is failing in starting only. I have tried restore on 4 different drives and it failed with same error in all the drives.
cannot read image from media id TA0707, drive index 2, err = 234
I have also found media staus is showing as "Frozen suspended". What is status means?

Check tape compatibility with the drive.
Tape frozen/suspended just means that netbackup will not attempt to write backups to the tape because it has reached an error rate threshold. Too many errors with the tape has prompted netbackup to freeze the tape.
You can unfreeze with the bpmedia command.

I can unfreeze but the issue is I am not able to restore or duplicate image from that tape.

Hi,
Are you facing this issue with same tape drive or different tape drives ?? have u tried restore on another tape drive ?
Have you increased BPTM verbose level ? how old that tape medias ? hoe w many ?
Have u run mcontent command ?
also need complete error logs from BAR-GUI (view status).

SCSI sense key if any ??
Do you see sense 0x03 asc11 ascq 00 (Medium Error - unrecovered read error)

Hi Nicolai,
I don't see any SCSI sense error on media server. Have been trying other restores also. It seems almost all teh restores are failing on some or other tape on different different drives.
I am not sure if we have many bad tapes. If yes is there anyways to recover the images from those tapes.

Please post your bptm log as File attachment.
What is the OS on the media server? If Windows - which tape driver is in use?
If Unix or Linux - are OS 'st' drivers up-to-date?
