I am trying to restore the Exchange 2010 DAG to an encrypted share on a non Exchange box; we have to send a copy offsite to be mounted in a lab by a third party.  I recieved numerous errors while attempting to restore the DAG to the share below are the job details. Can anyone shed some light on the steps required for this type of restore?

I dont see any way you can restore exchange data to an NT file system - it has to go to an exchange server.

The only way around it would be to use other software that can read a NetBackup tape and restore to a vurtual exchange server and extract the data from there - sure you know the software in question!

But in my opinion you cannot restore an exchange agent backup as flat files - could be wrong of course!

Try this tech note - sound like you are impacted by it:

WIN32 13: The data is invalid

I agree. Think of Exchange Agent as a bucket filled with water.

When we backup Exchange data using the agent, we backup the water (data), not the bucket (structure).

You need Exchange to provide the structure in order to receive the data.

The only way to perform a Filesystem (file level) restore is to shut down Exchange, run MS-Windows backup of the data files, then restore to non-Exchange machine.

Didn't think you could that. But someone seems to have done something similar with BackupExec by duplicating image to disk first - but doesn't explain what they did afterwards. Nor was it completely clear (in a quick read) whether the original backup was MS Exchange policy type of flat file after shutting down MS Exchange: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/recover-exchange-files-offline-restore Maybe Kroll OnTrack Power tools can help you. Google them.
