Restore backup images to alternate Netbackup environment

We have just completed a new Installation of Netbackup 7.5 across our sites, which replaces all other backup sytems including previous Netbackup installations.

Is there a way I can make all the old images/restore data available to the new Netbackup Environment for easy restoration? (there is now no tape library attached to the old environemnt as it is used on the new system)

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

If the new system was a new install, and the catalog wasn't recovered from the old server then really the only option is to import the tapes.

TN was written at 6.x but still valid.

Problem with this is it's time consuming, say 4 - 5 hrs per tape as a rough guess (if tape is full).

Voice of experience: if you have a lot of tapes to import, and images spanned tapes, you will need to run the Phase 1 import for all of the tapes first, and complete Phase 2 within about a week from the first import.

A few years ago, we took almost two weeks to complete Phase 1 imports of about 250 tapes from a prior Backup Exec installation, and by the time we started Phase 2, the images from Phase 1 had already begun to expire.

Hmm, Ron makes a good point.

An image that has only had phase 1 import is set to expire in 1 week.

... and

The images once phase 2 imported have the same retention 'level' as originally.  If however, the retention level is set differently on the new server, the images will expire at  a diff time.

eg.

If retention 12 was set to 3 years on server 1, and retention 12 is set the same on the new serevr, all is good.

If retention 12 was set to 3 years on server 1, and retention 12 is set to 2 weeks on the new serevr, that will be the retention the images are given after phase 2.

Thanks for the useful replies.

We only need the tapes/images that are set never to expire for historical restores.  But based on the above, this could take a very long time!  We will soon have a spare internal SAS LTO5 tape drive due to upgrading to LTO6 so I think the easiest option would be to buy an enclosure for this and connect it to legacy server and keep it running for a while.

Thanks
