Restore failed with code 5

hi,

I am currently doing a restore for lotus notes. which is failing with error code 5...requested files cannot be restored...pls update me on the same...

 - When performing a restore with NetBackup for Lotus Notes, the restore fails with "The restore failed to recover the requested files" 

Overview:
Veritas NetBackup (tm) for Lotus Notes database agent restore fails with Status Code 5 (restore failed to recover the requested files) if the restore was initiated from the master server or from the target client, while logged on as 'root.' This error is seen both when attempting to restore Lotus Notes databases back to the original server, as well as when performing alternate client restores.

Resolution:
Domino does not allow third-party applications to connect to its API as 'root.' Therefore all restores must be initiated from the restore client (Domino server) while logged onto NetBackup as the Domino administrative user (i.e. the Unix user running the Domino 'server' process and also owning notes.ini and other files in the Domino Data Directory).

In an alternate client restore, a user must be created on the destination client to match the user name and UID of the Domino administrative user on the source client.

Log in as the Domino administrative user and retry the restore operation.

hi,,

 there are so many reson for error no..5 .

the restore failed to recover the requested files
There were errors that caused the restore to fail

Check the Client Attributes on the master server's host properties to see if the "Allow client browse" and the "Allow client restore" settings have been changed

please try it i think its helpfull for u

1) Check netbackup client S/W is installed in client or backup server entry
2)bakup server entry in client S/W
3) if u use unix client please check bp.conf file in client  it is in  cd /usr/openv/netbackup/
4) plese check drive type ..
5) check host entry on source server & also check on destination server ...
6) if u get this type error try to resume restoration..

Restore must be resumed prior to first image expiration on Thu Jun  date ......

I think it's enough for your problemm......

Below is the error message that i get in detailed status..

Can someone explain me now wat can be done...

This is a warning not an error.
It simply tells you that once you correct the error then you only have until Sat Jun 06 16:31:20 2009 in order to resume the restore with this jobID..
After Sat Jun 06 16:31:20 2009 has passed then you have to issue a new restore request.

BTW: althogh an error code 5 is a generic error, I have found that more times than not that it is a naming resolution or network connectivity issue.

Check whether you are having enough space for restoration . Also check whether your media is geeting mounted .If possible please share your logs .

Please check the restoration point is not having any file filters.

Check while backup that you have not recieve any error that this particular file was not able to take backup.

Check duplex settings if it's(Restoration) through network path.

This may happen when you are doing restoration to ALT path, for this need to check network settings for Master server , backup client and Restoration server.

The client machine that i am doing a restore is a Solaris 10 OS. I am doing restore from the solaris master server.
i am doing the restore on the same path from the place it was backed up.
i have changed the settings on the file from to which the restore is going. then also didnt work.
all the network settings seems to be fine as the backups are working perfectly.

I think the solaris machine is not allowing some other machine to write data into it and hence causing file permissions. It might work when we try the restore from client end.

Hello there,

Good day!

Im also experiencing the same error: Restore failed with code 5 but in an exchange server 2007. The backup was good, successfully done without error and the backup was on the basik disk. Now Im trying to restore a single mailbox, more particularly, one folder on the Inbox. but then it return me error code 5.

Things I've check.

   Netbackup Client Sevice Login - netbackup user
   Folder permission on the folders to be restore - with netbackup user permission.
